Thursday 1st November 1917

It was a fine day.

Willie and Dave were working in the orchard. I was raking down the ground round the roses. The rain we had yesterday has done a lot of good. I planted a Penstemon and a Guillardia. In the evening I went down for the mail, called at Mrs Gravatt’s. Heard that Willie Haskell was Killed in action in France on the 12th of October.
