Monday 10th May 1915

It rained nearly all day. I was not able to do anything out of doors. Willie got a lot of firewood. I went down to the village in the pm to get the mail, heard down there that the Cunard steamer Lusitania had been torpedoed by the Germans a few miles off the Irish coast on her voyage from New York to Liverpool. She sank in a few minutes and over 1000 persons were drowned.
I wrote a long letter to Jack.
