Charles Septimus Clarke was the seventh son and youngest child of Mr and Mrs John Clarke and was born at New Park, near Leicester, England in 1843. In 1863 Mr Clarke arrived in New Zealand in the “Queen of Beauty” and later in the same year he took up land at Omaha and resided there. In 1869 Mr Clarke married Miss Wyatt, only daughter of John Wyatt, late of Portsmouth. Mrs Clarke passed away in Auckland in 1883 and left four sons, John, Charles, Henry and William, and two daughters, Maud and Minnie.
Mr Clarke was intimately connected with the social and public life of the district. During the whole of his residence at Omaha he was lay reader and secretary for the Anglican church in that district, and for very many years he was in charge of the library, taking great pride in keeping it all in good order and up to date.
He passed to the Great Beyond, after a brief illness, on the 27th of March 1929 at the age of 85.
